THE PROJECT

This year the school Vedruna-Angels and Museu Marítim have participated in the project Apadrina un Equipament. The participants have been students of 3rd ESO and the project has been part of the year syllabus of the Advanced English class.

Since it is part of our curriculum to study the history of the United Kingdom, we thought that the importance of the sea (trade, battles, conquests, etc.) was a very important element which would help us do something innovative with the Museum.

Throughout the year the students have learnt the basic construction of a ship and its parts. We even went out sailing one day with Pailebot Santa Eulàlia. On the other hand, they have learnt the details of the Battle of Trafalgar, the sinking of the Titanic, the Vikings, the transition from steam to sail, etc.

The Museum and the school have worked together to create the materials which are all in English nowadays and can be used in future projects. The students have created a WIX which contains all the activities they have done in class and in the museum.

This project is a great way to learn English in a meaningful and significant context, both contributing to the enrichment of vocabulary and cultural and historical knowledge. It has been a very enriching experience both for students and for me.
